Branch Burns

Branch BurnsBranch Burns is a first-year MFR student from Newnan, GA. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business from UGA in May 2024, along with a minor in Agricultural and Applied Economics and a Certificate in Personal and Organizational Leadership. Branch is pursuing a Forest Business Management MFR degree to deepen his knowledge of forestry and natural resource investment.

Branch writes: “My interest in forestry originates from my father, Buddy Burns, who graduated from Warnell. He is a land broker specializing in farm and timberland. Aside from him, I spent a summer working opportunity with Chattahoochee Timber Company working alongside their foresters cruising, marking, monitoring logging operations, and estimating timber inventory. During my short time thus far in the MFR program, I have had the opportunity to work at Timber Mart-South in collecting and aggregating pivotal market pricing and trends, aiding in the development of quarterly reports.

I discovered The Langdale Center for Forest Business through an undergraduate faculty mentor who provided the insight to explore graduate opportunities at the University of Georgia. The MFR program has given me the ability to gain a deeper knowledge of forestry outside of personal experiences to navigate potential career paths in Natural Resource Investment. The outdoors has played an integral role in my family’s history, and the MFR program will give me the ability to enhance my knowledge surrounding the assets that have been a large part of my life.

Upon completion of my MFR, I hope to seek a role within timberland investments, helping individuals, families, and companies reach their investment goals. I look forward to two years in the Langdale Center for Forest Business and leveraging the learning experiences and opportunities available.”
