Henry Cozart is currently pursuing his Master of Forest Resources (MFR) at the University of Georgia through the Harley Langdale Jr. Center for Forest Business, where he is focused particularly on strengthening his technical expertise and building networking opportunities. Originally from Dunwoody, a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, Cozart developed an early appreciation for the outdoors through activities such as hiking, hunting, and fishing. That interest led to him earning his degree in forestry from the University of Tennessee with a minor in business. With a strong foundation in both forestry and business, the MFR program allowed Cozart to bring a well-rounded perspective to his graduate studies. However, what really drew Cozart to pursue his MFR at the University of Georgia was recognizing the impact of the program’s alumni network. “I see the influence that graduates from this program are making,” he shares, “I wanted to be part of that while continuing to develop relationships with classmates, professors, and professionals in the field.”
During his time at UGA, one of the most memorable experiences has been attending the Forestry Day at the Capitol hosted by the Georgia Forestry Association in Atlanta, Georgia. After volunteering to help set up the event, he spent the day connecting with industry professionals and learning from their experiences. This day held particular significance as Cozart had attended the same event six years prior as a high school student. Cozart shared, “It was a full circle moment, being back and involved in that capacity was really meaningful.”
Cozart explains that “Forestry is bigger than me, the decisions we make today impact the future and it is my goal to leave a positive impact.” Cozart plans to pursue a career in a timberland investment management organization where he hopes to address key challenges facing the industry. He is particularly interested in the role of investment in sustaining and advancing forest resources because “to find solutions to the problems in our industry, we need to continue investing in our forests” Cozart shares. This upcoming summer, Cozart will be gaining hands-on experience as an investment intern with Domain Timber Advisors, further aligning with his academic and professional goals.
For future students, Cozart offers this advice: “The program offers a lot of opportunities, but its up to you to take advantage of them through making connections and putting yourself out there, people in this industry are willing to help.”
With his strong academic foundation, clear career direction, and a commitment to long-term impact, Cozart is positioning himself to contribute meaningfully to the future of the forestry sector and the MFR program.
