Forest Business Management Degree Requirements

To earn the MFR in Forest Business Management, students must complete a minimum of 33 semester hours of approved graduate coursework in three major areas: Forest Business Core, Forest Business Electives, and Other Electives. The coursework must include at least 13 semester hours within the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources and at least 9 semester hours outside Warnell. The MFR program is non-thesis and all MFR students must pass a comprehensive oral exam at the end of their program to demonstrate mastery of forest business concepts and applied knowledge. In addition to the required graduate coursework, students must complete five prerequisite courses, either prior to or during the MFR program. These ensure foundational knowledge necessary for success in the core curriculum.

The MS and PhD programs are not SAF accredited and have more curriculum flexibility. Students will work with the major professor and advisory committee to select forest business-related classes to meet their career objectives. Both the MS and PhD require a minimum of 30 semester hours of graduate level course work, and the MS requires a thesis while the PhD requires a dissertation.
